Sergey Kurenkov personal life. From the capital - with love. On the professional stage

Surname: Kurenkov

In the biography of almost any creative person there is an event that one day helps to realize his talent. Dealing with the profound stress of losing a loved one is not easy. But it is precisely in such moments that sincere creativity often awakens, capable of winning the hearts of thousands of people. And it is live emotions, and not a commercially calculated musical product, that can truly and for a long time make fans from different parts of the country fall in love with them. “Real feelings cannot be replaced with a surrogate. They can be experienced, passed through oneself and then expressed in creativity. And only then will the listener believe you,” says the talented singer and composer Sergei Kurenkov, whose creative upsurge coincided with a moment of emotional distress due to parting with the woman he loved...

And it all started back in the 80s. Throughout his adult life, Sergei Kurenkov studied music: he selected the chords of his favorite songs, wrote his own compositions, and immediately after serving in the army he began to make a living performing in a restaurant, while simultaneously studying at the Academy of Culture and Arts. A little later, in his native Zelenogorsk (Krasnoyarsk Territory), he, together with his friend Andrei Rem, nicknamed Rimbaud, became a member of a musical group with the colorful name “Bon-Hey”, which included three people. Sergei, along with two other participants, composed songs for the group and performed them. One of the trio’s most famous hits was the highly social composition “Comrade Gorbachev, goodbye!” (1991) with clearly expressed political overtones and provocative content. The song brought the group success outside its native Krasnoyarsk region, and tours began. As part of Bon-Hay, Sergei toured many Russian cities with concerts, including Moscow and St. Petersburg, and the hit “Comrade Gorbachev” was even included in one of the European music collections. However, over time, his singing career faded into the background for him. Sergei opened his own business, to which he had to devote more and more time. He did not stop singing and writing poetry, but he did it only for himself and his friends.

As for women, Sergei never experienced a lack of their attention. But a monogamist by nature, he was in no hurry to waste himself on fleeting relationships. When the main Woman appeared in his life, his friends began to notice that Sergei began to blossom before their eyes. He dreamed that it was She who would become the mother of his children, it was She who he was ready to throw half the world at her feet just for Her to be near. It seemed that the harmonious union of a loving man and a reciprocating woman could not be destroyed. But fate decreed otherwise. There was a breakdown in the couple's relationship, which led to separation. Sergei lost the Woman he loved, and this became the most important loss in his life.

It was during this period that Sergei returned to creativity, in which he found salvation for himself: he locked himself in a recording studio for six months. Sergei paid less and less attention to his own business, completely immersing himself in writing songs and poems, every line of which was imbued with love for a Woman. After some time, he decided to show his works to friends and family. Deep and expressive compositions left no one indifferent. Several songs appeared on the Internet. Strangers began to write letters to Kurenkov, thanking him for his sincere and real creativity.

The album, for which 16 songs are completely ready, has not yet been released, because Kurenkov did not pursue any commercial goals while working in the studio. However, when radio stations themselves began to play his songs in rotation, the release of the record became an obvious necessity.

Kurenkov himself characterizes his musical style as “modern pop chanson.” The artist managed to find an unoccupied niche and win the hearts of thousands of fans from different cities of Russia. The secret of his success is simple - he is sincere and honest in every sung line, his voice does not sound like the tuning of a sound engineer, but living emotions, his music is filled with the emotional colors of an endlessly loving person. But this is exactly what the modern listener is acutely lacking.

Sergey Kurenkov wins the hearts of his fans with the sincerity and originality of the poetic design of his musical compositions. But we are always interested in learning about an artist what remains behind the scenes, behind radio station ratings, gloss and broadcast rotations - to understand what he is really like in life? It turned out that the image of this talented artist, expressed in the form of a “self-portrait in prose,” is no less attractive than his work.

This is frank, without cuts... in our opinion.
Meet the artist, poet and composer Sergei Kurenkov!

I am often asked to tell about myself.
These words always give rise to reciprocal feelings. I would like to ask the interlocutor to ask a couple of questions, the answers to which he wants to hear. On the other hand, what can or should be said about the search for genres and forms of expression of oneself... one’s world?
February 23, 1968 is the day I was born! It is always nice to receive congratulations from your fans and friends on this holiday. Very easy to remember. That day in Zelenogorsk, a small town in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the frost was 20 degrees, so I became a Siberian. And it began...

Guitar and vocals. Since childhood, I persistently selected the chords of my favorite songs, and tried myself as a performer at my first home rehearsal point. But the idea of imitating musical idols quickly grew into something more. I wanted to express my energy and drive. Along with this came the realization of my potential to compose and perform music and songs. For as long as I can remember, music has always been with me and around me. Probably, it all started right when I still didn’t understand what and how it was supposed to start. Performing their “opuses” as part of a school ensemble and at friends’ apartments set them up for success. Particularly vivid impressions of his youth are associated with his debut on the stage of the local Palace of Culture as part of the Crystal Window VIA.

Work on the lyrics and guitar playing techniques bore fruit and in 1978 the first original guitar composition “Clouds” was born. It was a time of first love and a new experience of expressing one's sensual experiences in song form. The composition “Clouds” is still alive, in 2012 it was first performed in a new arrangement on Russian Radio, and in 2014 it was included in the album “Girl Spring”.

Real feelings cannot be replaced with a surrogate. They can be experienced, passed through oneself and then expressed in creativity. And only then will people believe you.
After serving in the army, where, by the will of fate, I managed to combine sergeant duties with rehearsals and performances as part of the VIA unit, my creative search continued.
At the same time, it became clear that the Faculty of Quantum Electronics and Light Sources of the Tomsk Polytechnic Institute, where I was drafted into the army as a student, had ceased to warm my soul. VSGAKI (now VSGIK) became the new alma mater.
Living in apartments and working on restaurant sites gave me good experience. The idea of performing one’s own works became the polar star. The emotional response of the people, the energy of the hall - an unforgettable experience.

A separate story is the “Bon Hay” project, a collaboration with Andrey “REM” Rymdenok and three other great guys. We played disco. It was an amazing drive from working in a team.
In 1991, our composition “Comrade Gorbachev, goodbye!” included in one of the European music collections. We recorded several albums and toured half the country performing.

Bon Hay - Comrade Gorbachev, goodbye!

Over the years, I have been occupied with life’s questions and priorities that are familiar to everyone. Experience in creating and developing projects has been accumulated. I tried myself in different guises. Studio work and concert management took over my head. Working with the stars paved the way to the capital.
“Hey, buddy,” I said to myself, “if our lives revolve around people’s desire for positive experiences, then how can music be considered something less important than everything else?!”
Gradually, creativity began to occupy more and more space in my life and this makes me very happy. For me this is a sign that I am on the right path.
Apparently, at certain moments, when life raised pressing questions and a choice had to be made, these were the right decisions. Today I am glad that I have dear daughters and a beloved wife, true friends and the opportunity to do what I really like. Special thanks to friends! Friendship is treating another as oneself - that's why the friends in my life make up my golden fund.
I listen a lot and thoughtfully. Music of different genres. Sometimes I try to look through the lines of the staff. I’m trying to grasp the drawing of the author’s idea, intuitively, at the level of internal experiences. In any genre I am interested in originality, melody and imagery. Without this, the composition cannot take place.
I listen to works by classics and contemporary performers: from symphonic works, jazz and rock to Soviet pop music, art songs and then around it all. I am pleased with the active development of modern Russian pop music. She is very rich in nature.

Any sound engineer has his own special view of the artists with whom he works on stage or in the studio. Speaking about the modern stage, I am impressed by the position of the famous writer Karel Capek, which has become an aphorism: “A critic is a person who speaks, no matter how he would do it if he could!” Sergei Kurenkov is very interesting to me as an artist and composer. This is a very diverse and deep personality. And he knows how to work - sincerely, on a clean sheet.
Andrey “REM” Rymdenok, sound engineer

Their melodies and lyrics have long become the soundtrack to my life. They are all close and loved in their own way. They are plot-based, this is my handwriting. My lyrics and music always come from the heart, I do not accept falsehood, which, I think, makes them honest.
I am not a supporter of rigid boundaries of a specific genre or format - this makes creativity too thoughtful. My songs lack planning and calculation. More reflection, improvisation and shades of sensual poetics - that’s what I like!
I find subjects for songs in life itself: in what happens to us and around us every day. I don't even think about it. This is probably why my muse doesn’t choose time! Ideas give rise to feelings, behind them images are born, melody and text are composed. The creative process flares up from simple ideas that unexpectedly come to your mind. The musical idea is a very interesting thing.
It is very important for me to feel “made” in a composition. To do this, sometimes you have to wait, rethink and redo something.
So, for example, in 2015 the album “I want to be with you” was released, which in general form was collected several years ago. But it was important for me to better understand my fans and their expectations. In my opinion, the album turned out to be bright - it carries a wave of goodness and positivity.

It's hard to evaluate yourself. Therefore, from time to time I think about the reaction of the public: voting in the charts, ratings, the number of orders for my compositions on radio stations, and especially the reaction of the audience. All this is valuable to me and I am glad when I find a response in the hearts of other people. I will be happy if I can bring something really interesting to our stage.

Everything will be fine!
