Description:

Sally Green's book "Half Code" is the first part of a trilogy about the teenage sorcerer Nathan. His parents, a black magician and a white witch, are from opposing clans. This means that their son Nathan is outside the law, outside the clans. He is doomed to endure cruelty and bullying until he finds the strength to violently revolt! The dark mystical story became a real international sensation:
Publishing rights have already been purchased in 50 countries!
The world-famous film studio 20th Century Fox acquired the film rights.
The producer of the film was Karen Rosenfeld, who worked on the Twilight film saga.

For those who are crazy about new magical sensations. For those who are ready for shocks. For those who feel comfortable in the “company” of cruel witches and fearless sorcerers!
Nathan's story has been called "the new Harry Potter." And at the same time, this is the story of a world that does not know pity or sentiment. There is no place for owls and round glasses here. Here everything is much tougher and more mysterious.

Quotes from the book “Half Code. The One Who Dies" Sally Green

Maybe this is his plan. He will kill until only the two of them remain - he and Gabriel.

- So... I have to cut off my finger?
“I don’t see how else it will get into the bottle.”
- What if it doesn’t work? - It’s okay, you’ll get an original decoration for the mantelpiece.

- You were away for a long time. Where have you been?
“I’m missing, but not forever.”

In front of me is a river, trees, gentle hills, birds are singing all around, the warm sun caresses my skin. It's very beautiful all around. This is exactly the kind of place I always wanted to live in. And there, next to me, Gabriel, and I with him.

Every day I go there to read. I read aloud to him, just like before, only now it’s mostly poetry. I am sitting on the grass in the shade of a walnut tree that has grown in the meadow. It is not like other trees and stands apart from them; it is not old, not tall, but its trunk and branches are covered with terrible scars.

About the book “Half Code. The One Who Kills" Sally Green

How often have you read interesting books that talk about war among people, but at the same time completely different creatures, magical, unusual, are fighting. This is exactly what Sally Green’s work is called “Half Code. The one who will kill." This book is simple, but not everyone can understand it.

At the forefront of the book, Nathan Breen is a minor who is different from the average person. He does not go to school, does not communicate with peers, instead he spends his nights in chains, in a cage from which he is rarely allowed to leave. His whole life is sports and running, as well as the difficult fate of cleaning the house. Nathan has to live with someone who teaches him to be strong, to defend himself in order to achieve a single goal.

Life in a cage seemed like hell to him; he tried to escape several times, but it did not bring results, and once he was severely beaten and almost lost his arm. Fortunately, thanks to regeneration, the guy quickly recovered. As it turns out, his childhood was not the most pleasant. His parents are a Dark Magician and a White Witch, who did not want him in principle. However, there was a grandmother in the family, Aaran, who always loved the boy. Soon letters began to arrive to him and then he had to go through verification and find out his code. However, it was never possible to find out; the result was always the same: unknown.

Nathan is a half code owner, which means he has half white and half black magic. He must choose where to end up. Nathan has neither life nor opinion, he cannot go anywhere without the orders of the Council, which, however, has only one goal - to kill his father. Soon the guy notices that he is becoming similar to his father - the Dark Magician, who loved the White Witch. Soon the boy meets his beloved, also White. How will the Council react to this? What will he do? How will he punish the guy? You can find out about this if you start reading the book “Half Code. The one who will kill."

Sally Green decided not to stop there and created another love line in the work, this time an unconventional one. Gabriel, Nathan's new friend, unexpectedly falls in love with him and does not hide his feelings. Nathan doesn’t know how to react to this and what to do, and in general, is it worth communicating with Gabriel now?

Despite the fact that Sally Green used unconventional love in the book, the work did not turn out to be snotty, rather, on the contrary, cruel and unusual. Gabriel's love is not disgusting to Nathan, but he has a lover and he is not going to change that. Equally, this love is not disgusting to the reader, it is perceived normally, there is nothing here that could cause disgust among adherents of traditional orientation. It was here that the author was able to show her ability to smooth out the conflict.

Disclaimer: this review was written back in 2017 on a piece of paper in a hostel in the Netherlands. Yes, I was so bombed. I will throw away the paper, and let the text remain in the abyss of the Internet.

Most likely the review was written after reading the entire trilogy, therefore SPOILERS.

"Half code" is a failure.

And if at first it was so bad that it was even good, then after seeing how many people were really imbued with the “depth” of this work, my ass caught fire. Narration is like a board: flat, wooden and one-dimensional. The characters are not revealed in any way other than their appearance. Roughly and carelessly outlined backstories, a complete absence of any emotions, except, I don’t know, primitive, instinctive ones: anger, fear (and even those negative ones). Love? Ha. Sally, if a character says “I love you” a hundred times, it’s so cheesy that you don’t believe him one bit. In “The Little Crows” (which I just finished before PC), sparks fly not just from looks and thoughts, but from everyday phrases like “pass the sandwich.”

The world here is also flat - checkmate, balls. (Miori from 2019: oh my god, is this meme almost 3 years old). The essence of the conflict is another dystopia, where the good turn out to be not so good after all. And it all boils down to the fact that the locals, who are good in fact, are evil in the absolute. And they commit their atrocities somewhere on the sidelines, so that God forbid, even for a millisecond, we imagine them as human beings with at least some feelings and think that this is the main character - an asshole psychopath.

Oh Nathan, Daddy's Neanderthal of Neanderthals. The train of thought is at the level of “I’m going. I’m going.” Mental somersaults like: “I don’t care about your Alliance! ---> I’ll join if you give me the knife.” And it becomes simply funny when just a few pages later Nathan himself preaches to the doubting Gabby about the benefits of the Alliance. "Anna Lisa? I love Anna-Lisa. Everything for her. Killed the folder (I’m not even talking about the fact that she was really in a state of passion)---> I hate her! It's all her fault. If the court doesn't kill her, I will do it (s - justice). No, I myself will never go to trial." And the Alliance? Starting a war in order to think about a way out in its midst? Ridiculous.

In all 3 books, I did not see ANY positive quality of the main character. And how can I empathize with him? And the rest of the characters, who are like mannequins in a store, have the emotional range of shells. The only thing that pleased me was Celia - the only heroine who is not flat, and with adequate motivation.

It seems that Sally was so carried away by the dark and dark that she forgot about everything bright. And without light there is no shadow, so the message of darkness looks like a caricature. "Half code" is solid black. That is nothing.

P.S. from 2019: re-reading this review now, I sincerely don’t understand why the book has gray stars. But since the me from the past decided so, there were probably reasons for this.

Book Description: The Council and the Alliance are locked in a fierce battle. Despite all the efforts of Nathan and the dozens of Hunters he destroyed, the end of the war is not in sight. The search for the missing Anna-Lisa, which became the meaning of his existence, is not progressing either. But the main thing is that Nathan is overcome by strange dreams - if you believe them, death awaits him very soon. Reliable comrade Gabriel advises you to just drop everything and hide. But is it possible to hide from war and from oneself? The book is full of special humor that helps you get used to the plot better. The reader can expect a lot of mysteries and secrets with an unpredictable ending.

In these times of active fight against piracy, most of the books in our library have only short fragments for review, including the book Half Code. The one who will die. Thanks to this, you can understand whether you like this book and whether you should purchase it in the future. Thus, you support the work of writer Sally Green by legally purchasing the book if you liked its summary.
