The city of Shamkir - Azerbaijan. Detailed map of Shamkir - streets, house numbers, districts Azerbaijan g Shamkir

Until now, I have never been to the northwestern part of Azerbaijan. And somewhere in the depths of my soul lived a stable stereotype "The farther from the capital - the farther from everything progressive and modern." They say that the province is the province, in the backwardness of its charm and it is worthless to violate pastoral landscapes with new buildings, and rural still lifes with electronics. However, Shamkir dispelled my delusions. This remote town of 45,000 people turned out to be not only beautiful, neat, elegant, but also very modern. What other provincial center boasts an indoor ice rink, rollercoasters and its own fast food at the level of McDonald's? But Shamkir is not only entertainment but french fries with ketchup. This is the enhanced intellectual development of young people. It is in Shamkir that the program "Clever Men and Wise Men" is filmed - the only licensed version of the popular Moscow TV show - the same one hosted by Yuri Vyazemsky. And in "What? Where? When?" Here they play in English.

Shamkir is very old. According to historical sources, the city has been known since the 5th century as Shamkur - a major trade and craft center. Over the centuries, it has changed hands many times, having been under the rule of the Persians, Arabs, Khazars, emirs from the Kurdish Sheddadid dynasty. And in the XII century, Shamkir was part of the Georgian kingdom for some time. Needless to say, the strategic position of the city on the Great Silk Road could not leave anyone indifferent.

In the second half of the 9th - beginning of the 10th centuries, scientists say, the city of Shamkir was an important center of crafts and trade.

Shamkir during its heyday was a large city. In the center, of course, there was a fortress.

However, in 1235 Shamkir was destroyed by the troops of the Mongol noyon Molar. And since then he has not been able to recover in the same place. Shamkirs preferred to build a new Shamkir - a few kilometers from the old one.

Today, a huge fortress near the village of Mukhtariye is under the supervision of scientists and is surrounded by the care of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. I hope that in the near future the Shamkir fortress will become a place of pilgrimage not only for archaeologists, but also for tourists interested in antiquity, schoolchildren, local historians and other people who are not indifferent.

And this is the so-called "didvan" - a signal tower of the 17th century over the Shamkirchay River. This is also a few kilometers from Shamkir. On the hill, in the middle of the cemetery, where I climbed at sunset.
There are a lot of antiquities around Shamkir. Somewhere here fought the legendary hero Koroglu.

In 1803, Azerbaijani Shamkir was occupied by Russian troops and annexed to Russia. Here, in 1818, a colony of Germans who moved from Württemberg arose. And the city began to be called Annenfeld - in honor of Anna Pavlovna - the Russian princess, granddaughter of Catherine II, who was married to William of Orange, which allowed the former princess to become Queen of the Netherlands and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg.

In 1909, a Lutheran church was built in Annenfeld, which operated until 1941. During the Second World War, most of the Germans from these places, alas, were evicted. And by now there are practically none left in the city.
Now the church is completely restored, it even has a small organ.

And the German order remained. And the main streets are unofficially called in the old fashioned way: "First", "Second", "Third", etc.

And Gothic street signs are also a tribute to the memory of German fellow citizens.

The best hotel in Shamkir - Excelsior - also evokes German associations..

My room at the Excelsior Shamkir hotel. German order.

Annenfeld is remembered here, history is honored.
Respect.

The last of the Mohicans is a linguist and winemaker Yunus-muallim, nicknamed "German Yunus". His mother was German.
Yunus, 85, a German, has never been to Germany. "Who needs me there?" - laughs. And his wine is delicious.

Modern residents of the former Annenfeld.

Quiet, clean town of Shamkir. The central streets have been renovated, and the peripheral ones are being reconstructed now.

Gate 1903. There are many of them here.

An interesting Shamkir tradition is to decorate the gates in honor of wedding celebrations. Other such bows and wreaths hang for years.

Of course, a giant flagpole was also installed in Shamkir. They say that it is the second highest in Azerbaijan - 98 meters. Around the base of the flagpole is a three-story flag museum.

The museum has a good collection of Azerbaijani flags, medals, badges, coins and other artifacts. In the picture - the banner of the Sheki Khanate.

Opposite the museum is the Zyakya Youth Intellectual and Creative Center.

I was extremely impressed by what I saw in the youth center. With some reservations, we can say that this is the revival of the lost institute of pioneer palaces and houses of culture. In the best sense of these concepts. And all, of course, for free!

A library of 5,000 volumes (not much, but quite decent for a start) and iPads on the tables.

I was presented with a weighty volume catalog of archaeological finds in the Shamkir region.

Art studio. On the right, there are illustrations for the fairy tales of the peoples of the world - magnificent works by the best artists of Azerbaijan, created by order of a children's magazine and bought from the editorial office - so that the Shamkir children would be equal to the luminaries. The pictures are really amazing, but I thought that everything is sad with illustrators. Maybe I'll post some pictures next time.

And on the day of my visit, young Shamkir artists were preparing paintings based on the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm. Needless to say, the German spirit is here and there in Shamkir-Annefeld.

And in the corridors there are paintings of the classics of modern art.
The handwriting of Altai Sadykh-zade cannot be confused with anything else.

What was my surprise when I saw that children and teenagers were watching "The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish". It turned out to be a Russian language class.

needlewomen.

In April Shamkir will host an international chess tournament in memory of Vugar Gashimov.

"Teacher's" Center.

And I also landed in the "What? Where? When?" tournament!

A very well-equipped television studio, where the "Clever and Clever" programs are filmed.

Another modern Shamkir complex is the Heydar Aliyev Center. His appearance is in the first photo in this post.

Of course, the Heydar Aliyev Center is first of all a museum of the national leader. In the photo: a portrait of Heydar Aliyev by Tahir Salahov.

In the museum there are meticulously made copies of the offices of Heydar Aliyev - in Baku, in Nakhichevan, in Moscow.

Heydar Aliyev's office in the Kremlin.

But the Center is also a large library (from Karl Marx to Daria Dontsova)

And activities for young people.

In a word, the Center is not only a memorial, but also an actively operating institution.

And outside the window - a large and beautiful city park. The cold receded only the day before, so for now the fountains were silent and an artificial lake was lowered. But they say that the warm season here is a perfect beauty.
By the way, I counted at least three parks in little Shamkir.

And all sorts of swings and carousels.

And the entertainment complex "Megafan" with a skating rink, slot machines and attractions.

And bike lanes.

And their own McDonald's, wittily named "Shamburg". The assortment includes shamburgers, sham-cheeseburgers, sham-steaks and so on.

"Shamburg" has a sweet relative - cafe-confectionery "Shamshirin".

In a word, I really liked pleasant, kind Shamkir.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart Director of the Center "Zyakya" Araz Pashayev for a pleasant weekend, informative excursions, interesting conversations and, in general, for opening Shamkir for me.

We continue to acquaint tourists of our country with cities and sights. Today we will talk about Shamkir city(Şəmkir), which in its history was subjected to invaders who destroyed the city and exterminated the population.

City of Shamkir (Şəmkir) is the main center of the Shamkir region, which is located on the Tbilisi-Yevlakh highway. Very close, or rather 4 km away, is the Dallyar railway station. From Shamkir to exactly 444 kilometers.

20 km from the city there is the village of Mukhtariat, in which the ruins of the Shamkir fortress have been preserved, after this name was given to the city itself. The years of foundation lead us to the 5th century, and then it was called Shamkur and the Great Shamkir River passed nearby.

At different times, the population was subjected to invasions, and Shamkir city passed from hand to hand, leaving behind the ruins from the battlefields. In the 6th century, the Arabs captured the city, and the caliphate renamed Shamkir into Mutawakkil Mutawakkiliya.

In the 12th century, the Tatar-Mongolian troops did not pass by, while cutting almost the entire population, of course, this left its mark on history. After this battle, Shamkir could not come to his senses for several centuries until the reign of the Safavids. In the 16th century it was part of the Ganja Khanate, and in 1803 it was captured by tsarist Russia and passed into their possession, and a new era began.

Then came the history of the German colony. In 1920, the region was part of the German colony of Annenfeld, and until 1937 it bore the name of the colony, and in 1937 it was renamed Shamkhor.
