Department history

The history of the department "Welding, casting and technology of structural materials" goes back to the distant sixties of the last century, when in the Tula region there was an acute shortage of engineering personnel in welding and foundry specialties.

In accordance with the order of the Tula Mechanical Institute (TMI) dated January 28, 1963, the department "Metal Science", which existed since the 30s of the twentieth century, was divided into two departments: "Metal Science and Heat Treatment" and "Metal Technology and Foundry". "(TMLP). The head of the department of TMLP was appointed Ph.D. tech. Sciences, Assoc. I.P. Fominykh, who was previously the head. Department of Metallurgy. At the cafe TMLP was entrusted with the conduct of general engineering disciplines "Technology of metals", "Technology of metals and materials science".

During the formation of the Tula Polytechnic Institute in August 1963, on the basis of this department of the former TMI and with the involvement of specialists of the corresponding profile of the former Tula Mining Institute (TGI), the department "Technology of Metals, Materials Science and Foundry" (TMMLP) was organized, headed by Cand. tech. Sciences, Assoc. R.F. Yakovenko. The department was introduced into the mining and metallurgical faculty. The specialty "Foundry production of ferrous and non-ferrous metals", which was available at TGI before the merger of Tula universities, was transferred to the TMMLP department, which as a result became a graduating one. However, the training of foundry engineers was gradually curtailed. The last graduation in this specialty took place in 1969 and the department focused on working with specialty 0504 "Equipment and technology of welding production", which was opened in 1965. In January 1967, the department became part of a new faculty - the faculty of heavy engineering.

In connection with the re-profiling, the department in 1970 received the name "Metal Technology and Welding Production" (TMSP).

In 1974, the department "Technology of metals and foundry production" was divided into two departments: "Technology of metals" and "Equipment and technology of welding production". From 1974 to 1980, the department "Equipment and technology of welding production" was headed by Ph.D. tech. Sciences V.A. Sudnik, and in 1974-1978. Department "Technology of metals" was headed by Ph.D. tech. Sciences, Assoc. V.P. Ivanov. In 1978 - 1980. the department was headed by Dr. tech. sciences, prof. O.V. Martynov.

In January 1980, there was a new merger of the departments "Technology of Metals" and "Equipment and Technology of Welding Production" into one department "Technology of Metals and Welding Production", which was headed by Dr. Tech. Sciences, Professor O.V. Martynov.

In 1995, these departments were again divided into two OiTSP and TMiLP, and the current department "Equipment and Technology of Welding and Foundry Production" was created in the structure of the new Faculty of Technology on January 31, 2001 as a result of the merger of these two departments. The department was headed by Dr. tech. Sciences, Professor V.A. Sudnik.

Since October 2001, the department has been headed by Dr. Tech. Sciences, Professor A.A. Protopopov. The prerequisites for the organization of the department was the expediency of combining the efforts of workers in the training of specialists in the engineering direction and carrying out scientific work in the direction of 15.03.02 "Technological machines and equipment."

Currently, 11 such centers are successfully operating, 6 of which are accredited by the International Society for Engineering Pedagogy and 2 are undergoing accreditation and licensing.

Formulated by Prikhodko V.M. requirements for an engineering university teacher and the organizational and methodological work carried out by him made it possible to lay the foundations for the creation of the Russian Register of Technical Discipline Teachers, integrated with the international Register "European Engineering University Teacher". To date, 111 leading teachers of technical universities in Russia have received the title of "European teacher of an engineering university" and are included in the international ING-PAED IGIP Register.

As chairman of the organizing committee, Prikhodko V.M. did a lot of organizational work, which ensured the successful holding in 1998 on the basis of MADI (TU) of a representative International Symposium on Engineering Pedagogy, which brought together more than 500 participants, including about 150 representatives of the Higher Technical School from 22 countries of the world.

Prikhodko V.M. is the author of 32 scientific and scientific-methodical works (including 5 monographs) on the problems of improving engineering education and its staffing.
