He grew up in the slums of London, lived almost on the street. He made a living by gambling in pubs. Tired of enduring his alcoholic father, he poisoned him. But later, he rushed with a knife at JoJo, whom George protected with his body. Sprinkling blood on the mask, Dio put it on his head and became a vampire. He attacked the policemen gathered at the estate and killed them. Jonathan entered the fray. During the scuffle, a fire started, Jonathan threw Dio from a height onto a spear of the Joestar family statue. However, Dio survived and later restored his body. Later, he creates himself vampire minions that attack Jonathan and his friends. Later, Jonathan still gets to Dio, and a fight ensues. Jonathan manages to hit Dio with Jamon, and he falls off the ramparts. In flight, he tears off his head so that the flames of Hamon do not reach it. Wang Chen sneaks Dio's head onto the ship where Jonathan and Erina are on their honeymoon. Dio attempts to take over JoJo's body to make it his own. Jonathan, previously mortally wounded, grabs Dio's head and disappears with him in an explosion. The rest of the ship is sinking.

It was me, Dio! (Kono Dio Da; It Was Me, Dio; But it's me, Dio) is a memorable quote from the character Dio Brando from the manga and anime JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (“JoJo's Bizarre Adventure”), used in memes and in bait-and-switch pictures. Appeared in the first episode, “It Was Me, Dio!” considered to be the very first anime (but not manga) meme.

Origin

The scene where JoJo's Bizarre Adventure character Dio Brando says "It was me, Dio!" takes place in the third chapter of the manga and the first episode of the anime, which premiered on October 5, 2012. To torment JoJo, his rival Dio forcibly kisses his beloved Erina Pendleton, thus depriving the hero of the opportunity to give her her first kiss.

“Have you and JoJo already kissed? Not yet, right? Your first kiss is not his! It was me, Dio!”

The very first known thread discussing the scene was created on the /a/ imageboard of the 4chan imageboard on October 6, 2012, a day after the premiere.

Posts featuring Dio gained a lot of popularity first on /a/ and then on the rest of the site. Typically a picture with a phrase was used as a way to tease anon looking for something with the phrase “you were expecting a link/art/whatever, but it was me, Dio!”.

So, on January 24, 2013, a thread appeared on /a/ with a frame from the series and a quote from Dio.

Your first kiss is not JoJo's, /a/. It was me, Dio!

Over time, the meme spread beyond 4chan and penetrated reddit, tumblr, twitter and other social networks. For example, on May 3, 2014, a twitter user @InazumaBuster posted a joke using a macro that got over 700 likes.

You were waiting for a manual with instructions, but it was me, Dio!

On November 16, 2014, user Simon The Digger posted a YouTube remix featuring the scene, with over 220,000 views.

Meaning

Macro “It was me, Dio!” often used as a bait-and-switch post: instead of the expected response or link, the user is greeted with the phrase “You were waiting for X, but it was me, Dio!” and a scene from the series. Also, “It was me, Dio!” also used in standalone memes, which are usually built in a similar pattern.

In terms of meaning, the picture is similar to JoJo-analogue or Manning's faces, but at the same time it allows you to beat the source material in different ways. For example, Dio's eyes, nose, and mouth can overlap other characters' faces, and the phrase "It was me, Dio!" in such cases, “It was me, [character]!”

(beware, spoilers)
The overall impression is something absolutely beautiful...and truly heavenly. And… very memorable characters. Even those who are served "wholesale" - like the team of mechanics "Sylvanas", for example.
And if more...

Characters
I will not talk about the main characters - Klaus and Lavi. A lot has been said about them. I'd rather pay attention to others.
Alex Rowe. He seems to be a cool and calm person. It seems to be. Only in reality - fire under a black cloak, in order to take revenge on Delphine, he is ready to sacrifice everything.
Excellent fighter. Excellent leader. And a very strong person.
But ... sadly, his death is natural. Because Alex lives for revenge - and there is nothing left for him. In Mortal Kombat, Scorpion chose the same path - but he is a revenant, undead, and cannot die. Alex is mortal. And finds death.
Having reached the goal.

Dolphin. Clever, refined... and, I think, almost crazy. Reveling in her power, able to order to kill simply out of boredom.
Strange, but I could not determine her age: both in the present and in her memories, she looks exactly the same.
"When Mistress Delfina orders, one must immediately obey." She put this principle at the basis of her whole life, and the guilders do not argue with this. And this is why she is dangerous - when a madwoman has absolutely devoted people in her subordination, it's creepy.
And yet… more than deserving of such an end. To be proud of her absolute power, to come up with a sophisticated death to enemies, to play on the nerves of the "guests" ... and only in the last seconds to understand that all this will not help, that she, the omnipotent sovereign, is powerless against the usual grip of a trained soldier.
That's it before death in her eyes and interfered - fear in half with surprise. "How it is? Why? I'm the head of the Guild! I can't die like this! I can't die at all! »
Maybe. You don't have to laugh looking at death - otherwise death will laugh at you.

Sofia. To be honest, at first she did not cause much emotion. A good officer, a normal woman in love with the commander... not too original, right?
He took a fresh look when he found out that she was the heir to the throne of Anatole. And it was then that Sophia showed herself to the fullest - she finally began to decide on her own. Not following Alex's orders.
And finally she learned to give tough orders - like firing at the Urbanus, continuing to fly over the Exile ... The jester knows what kind of empress she will become - especially since the empire is no longer there. But I think the ruler will be good.

Moran Shetland. For some reason it wasn't mentioned in the thread. And in my opinion, this person deserves attention no less than the others ...
"Let Deezit's bullets not touch Moran Shetland's body... May Deezit's bullets not touch Moran Shetland's body..."
"Do you know that only thirty percent of the airborne infantry survive?"
Moran was among the survivors - and among those rejected by his own army. It turns out on the Silvana, meets other, dissimilar people, looks at Tatiana ... He meets a girl from Dizit, with whom she shares much more than with the rest.
And then, when the last war begins, he remembers that he is an infantryman. That's exactly what he was taught.
And he picks up a rifle.
Moran is not a captain, not a ruler, not even a pilot. An ordinary private, of which there are many. But these are the ones who decide the outcome of the war - and Shetland proves it. After all, it was he who shot the last guildman and did not allow the ship's power plant to separate.
Despite the fact that Moran is only "one of many", I remember him very much. Only two, about which below, sunk into the memory more strongly.

Dio and Luciola. I put them together - because it would be very difficult to talk about them one by one.
Dio is still almost a child. Emotional, stubborn, at times capricious, changeable... Lusciola is always self-possessed, a master of combat, a faithful shadow of "Mr. Dio".
But in some ways Dio surpasses his bodyguard - in the ability to live and enjoy this life. Remember: “Lussiola, if it is tasty, it should be reflected on the face! - On the face? - Yes! ".
Dio somehow knows how to influence others, and unintentionally. Klaus, who at first shied away from him, challenges Delphine herself, the mechanics, who looked at the guildman with suspicion, are preparing his birthday ...
By the way, this is one of the brightest scenes with Dio - his birthday, and sincere happiness on his face.
And most of all, he managed to influence Luciola.
Delphine felt that she had assigned the ideal bodyguard to her brother, and so it is. The victory over Cicada is, you know, a characteristic ... But she did not take into account how his faithful companion will change when communicating with Dio.
And Dio does not treat him like a servant. When he is dragged to the “reforging”, whom does he call for help? Luciola. Completely forgetting that just recently he slapped him for treachery.
And in the Grandstream, in the last episode... What is Dio shouting, rejoicing at the victory? Not "I won" at all.
“Lusciola, we have defeated Immelmann! We won! ".
"We". This is how he always perceived it - not “here I am, but Lussiola”, but “we”.
And Delphine naively believed that the faithful bodyguard would dutifully take his place behind the back of the updated Dio! She herself set the program - to protect Dio ... and did not take into account that Lussiola could change the interpretation of the concept of "protect" on her own. The fate of these companions is to wait for orders or make decisions for the good of their master. But they act with lightning speed.
So Lussiola - for a long time hesitates between friendship and loyalty to Delphine. And having made a decision, he quickly develops a plan and successfully implements it.
About what Dio remains in the dark for a long time. And only at the peak of joy, turning around on an empty seat, does he understand.
At this moment, it demolishes all the guild mental blocks, everything alien - and Dio freezes, bound by grief. Until the mad wind of the Grandstream overturns the vanship.
I'm not a sentimental person at all. Rather, he is inclined to sneer at sentimentality. But the last fight between Luciola and Dio in the Grandstream - the combination of these two scenes caused me ... some kind of bitterness in my soul. If not more.
It seems to me that if Dio managed to survive the Grandstream, then Delphine would be very lucky that Alex simply strangled her.

Peace
Waves crashing over fields of gold? - The breath of spring brings life. Ground covered with wheat. (Second Mysterium)
If what was shown in the last episode is a view of the planet "Exile" from space ... then this is a very peculiar world. In the form of an infinity symbol - and with very different parts.
Green Anatole - and ice-bound Dizit. Boxes of cruisers of the first - and rounded outlines of ships of the second. And between them - a futuristic, highly developed Guild.
But both sides are impressive. Sophia's coronation ceremony sank into memory ... and the oath ceremony in the Guild. Very… thoughtful rituals.

What rests in the depths of memory? Where it all began and where everything will return to. Blue planet. (Fourth Mysterium)
This statement brings additional color. What happens - the people of this planet moved from the Earth? Or… it was the Earth that took this shape?
Weird. But now it no longer matters - because this world has become a planet from the "depths of memory." And I think it will remain so.

The path leading the angels? - Road of the great winds. Grandstream. (Third Mysterium)
But I have never seen such a phenomenon as the Grandstream in science fiction. A realm of wild wind separating two countries - in which only a mighty cruiser will survive ... or more durable ships of the Guild.
For most vanship pilots, the Grandstream is synonymous with the words "death" and "trial". Because crossing it is incredibly dangerous... but it's also the highest a pilot can achieve.
Klaus and Lavi were the last to do so. Because the Grandstream is no more, and you can fly as high as you want.

What is beyond heaven? “That which leads lost children to their mother.” "Exile".
I think it's worth mentioning this ship itself, right?
It's strange, but "Exile" caused me an association with Strugatsky's Wanderers. Something very complex, and completely alien. Incomprehensible purpose, unknown construction.
The answer to what Exile is was never given - despite all the rantings of Delphine. And it seems to me that she would never have been able to subdue this ancient machine ... if such an association is allowed to me - as Moff Disra could never control Darth Vader.
*thinking* The Exile rested in the Grandstream. And erased it - almost instantly. So wasn't the Grandstream created for the sole purpose of keeping the Exile in it?

Puzzles
As you can see from the above, I liked the movie.
But there are a few things that I haven't found an answer to.
What are guild fighters like Luciola and Cicada like? Judging by the speed, plasticity of movements and behavior, they are not people, or at least not quite people.
Klaus left Dio on the bed in Anatole. Where did he suddenly take a vanship and catch up with them in the Grandstream? Or did I miss something?
Is Moran Shetland dead or not?
And finally - why is such a powerful creature like "Exile" called "Exile"?

Disk
I have no complaints about Exiled, unlike Stand Alone Complex. The voice acting here, no matter what they say, is of high quality. Alvis' thin voice, Dio's mannered and slightly lazy speech, Tatyana's confident dry tone… If only all CDs did this, honestly!
